The impact of Corona Pandemic on Sri Lanka

Corona or Covid 19 hit Sri Lanka about 5 months ago and we are still struggling to recover from its crippling impact. It is caused by a virus that spreads fast. Originated in China, this virus has now spread to the whole world. Some countries like the USA, Brasil and India are the worst-hit countries. The Sri Lankan government has taken timely and drastic measures such as curfew and lockdowns to contain the disease. Sanitary measures such as social distancing and wearing the mask have been made compulsory. Those who have been suspected of the disease have been quarantined. It has a negative impact on all aspects of Sri Lankan society including the economy, education, industries etc. Airports and schools have been closed to prevent the spread of the disease. Corona has made heavy demands on the health sector as they have to work round the clock to combat the disease. Fortunately, we have managed to control the spread of the disease to a certain extent thanks to the commitment of all the relevant parties. We as the citizens of Sri Lanka, too have a duty to protect ourselves and our country from this ghostly pandemic.
